We are now into the closing months of our District Centenary and I hope that we have enjoyed our special events. The highlight for me so far has been our District Centenary Camp in June and, judging by the feedback we received, everyone seemed to have a great time!
Our focus into 2010 is going to be the quality of our programmes and working together. We have a really great team and have been successful in recruiting a good number of new Adult Volunteers this year – we also need to ensure that as many adults as possible stay in Hitchin Scouting to help us progress and build on this success. We shall be dusting-off our Development Plans, so see how we are doing against our good words.
We now have over 700 people involved in Hitchin Scouting, which is a number that never ceases to amaze those outside the movement. Our newest section, 5th Beavers, which started in March, is going great guns and I know that others are considering how to grow their groups.
Adult Training has been a key focus for us since appointing a Local Training Manager and this needs to continue. I know that it takes more of the valuable time of our volunteers, but it also adds more skills and experience which translates directly into the quality of the programmes we offer to our young people. The District has been able to support, financially, specialised training in First Aid, roped climbing walls and archery, and all such skills are available to groups within the District.
Our twelve Groups and two Explorer Units continue to go from strength to strength. This is only possible through the fantastic efforts of our volunteer adults. I would like to use my page on our website to thank them on behalf of all our young people, for everything that they do.
If you are looking around our website, wondering what 21st Century Scouting is like, whether as a young person or adult, please get in touch with me and I’ll help you, with our team, to find out.
